The Galmont Hotel & Spa, hotel in Galway

The Galmont Hotel & Spa overlooks Galway Bay and is just 656 feet from Eyre Square. It has an award-winning restaurant, Spirit One Spa and Energize fitness and leisure.

From the moment we arrived at the Galmont, and were greeted at reception by Fernanda and Clodagh, we found it was the staff that made the stay exceptional. For Europe, the room was comfortable, spacious, kept immaculate, with daily service. While the quiet location may seem out of the way, it is just steps from the train station, the Coach Station and minutes away from Eyre Square. Our buffet breakfast was included and always fresh and well stocked. The host was also very pleasant.

FAQs about hotels in Galway

Cracking City of Craic

Welcoming Galway is a small city with fantastic nightlife and an infectious atmosphere. Outside of the Galway Arts Festival, there’s still plenty of live music in the Irish pubs to get the party started.

The Galway Races at Ballybrit Race Course west of Galway Airport attract a good crowd, as does Eyre Square, a green space with flags of previous ruling families who gave it its nickname - City of Tribes. To the south are cobbled streets housing brightly colored shops and restaurants.

Sights in Galway include its cathedral and city museum which has an interesting insight into the history of the city and Ireland. Lynch’s Castle is the last remaining 17th-century merchant house, and the Spanish Arch is a small section of city walls by the Corrib River, linking Galway Bay to huge Loch Corrib. Where river and ocean meet is Claddagh Park, a great spot for a picnic with a view.

Further around the coast is Salthill Promenade, home to Atlantaquaria, Ireland’s national aquarium, focussing on sealife off Irish shores. It’s a Christmas Day tradition to jump from Blackrock Diving Tower nearby into the icy Atlantic Ocean, though you may well spot some wag giving it a go.

Booking.com has an excellent range of Galway hotels, apartments and B&Bs to complete your stay.

I loved the hop on and off tour bus which we took up to salthill and back. The whole journey was narated, history unfolded I loved the traditional music in Taffees. We didn't have a bad meal wherever went . The architecture and history of galway is both beautiful and amazing. Our hotel was right next to the main train and bus station so ready access to main routes to airports and ferries etc. Local buses make getting around Galway very easy

We prefered to eat and drink in the West End and stayed clear of Shop Street other than when we hit the artists market where we could get locally made stuff. We had great food at Universal and grabbed drinks at the Bierhaus. We listened to fabulous music at the Crane- go for the experience (go upstairs) if nothing else! If you want to go to the Aran Islands, I recommend the Aran Island Ferries. They leave right from Galway Docks and take you to Inishmore. You get about 4 hours on the island (enough to take a horse and cart (a must!) to Dun Aonghasa and back but not much else) then it picks you up and returns via the Cliffs of Mohr. If you want longer or want a different island you'll have to go to one of the other ports (Doolin or Rossaveel) that will take you a while to get to. The weather was incredible, so we were outside the whole time and walked on the promendade to Salthill each night. We didn't have a car- the traffic was pretty heavy, so I was very glad we were on foot. If you do have a car, I would recommend parking at wherever you are staying and walking everywhere else if possible. If we had more time we would have ventured to Spiddal and to Connemara National Park, but we felt we had enough time to see Galway itself.

The staff was incredible - my mom is new to traveling and older, and they treated her with such kindness and care. Answered all her questions, and took care of her every need. Location was also phenomenal. Exactly where you would want to be. It is not the grand hotel experience that you might expect with a 4 star hotel in the sense it is smaller and boutique, but by far one of the best stays of our trip to Ireland. Amazing ambiance and local feel. Wonderful staff. Comfy and clean. Would recommend to anyone and will stay again!

I have stayed here many times over the last 25 years so I know the layout and how it operates. Free parking for guests. the hotel is about a mile and half to Eyre Square but is mostly down hill or flat. The rooms are comfortable and the walls and floors are very sound proofed. it is a fantastic base for the Wild Atlantic Way and day trips. I have never walked back from the city as I’ve always needed a taxi due to the copious amounts of Guinness that can be bought in the best city in Ireland for hospitality

This is a nice hotel with good amenities. While it’s not in the city center it’s also not far from it and it’s only about a 5-10 minute taxi ride away. The room was larger than expected, especially since I’m used to hotel rooms in Europe being so small! The room had a nice nespresso machine and even offered room service which was perfect when I didn’t feel like venturing out! It was a great place to lay my head after a busy day of touring the area and I would stay here again!

It is ideal for staying close to Salthill village and still close to Galway center… cozy and nice, comfortable bedrooms.. Siobhan is simply the best host.. it is an old hotel so you better know you won’t stay in a boutique /fashion place, but good enough for the price you paid…bathrooms need some refurbishment but still decent No doubt we will stay there when coming back to Galway

We stayed in 6 B&B's/hotels during our trip to Ireland and we agreed that Ash Grove had the best beds! We also really enjoyed the breakfast, we had the choice of 4 options and got the pancakes each day because they were so good! It's in a quiet neighbourhood, which is great for sleeping and it has some quick food options nearby.
